The van

Two years, two grand tours, one brilliant van

We bought Vinny through Quirky Campers in February 2024, professionally converted by Live Slow Campers as a high-spec off-grid camper, and he has been a joy from day one. In our two years together he has carried us on two month-long European tours, down through France and Spain in 2025, then Spain and Portugal in 2026. A really positive experience: no issues, just miles, beaches and mountain roads.

Life on board is easy. The double bed stays made up, so there is no nightly furniture shuffle: pull up, kettle on, done. The kitchen is a proper one, with a Belfast-style sink under a lovely copper tap, a real oven, two gas hobs and a fridge and freezer, so you cook actual dinners. And with a hot shower and toilet on board, you can park somewhere beautiful and simply stay.

Underneath it all is a low-mileage, long-wheelbase, high-roof Crafter: 2.0 litre diesel, 6-speed manual, cruise control, twin reversing cameras and a tow bar. 48,547 miles, regularly serviced, cambelt and water pump already done, and MOT until August 2027.

We're selling simply because we aren't using Vinny enough. After two month-long tours he deserves more time on the road than we can give him.

Living on board

Sleep well, cook properly, wash off the day

The fixed double bed is the heart of it: a proper UK double with a Simba memory foam mattress, genuinely as comfortable as the bed at home. Nothing to fold, slot or rearrange: it is always made up, and you sleep well every night.

The bathroom gives you real independence: a flushing toilet and a hot shower behind their own door, so late-night dashes across a campsite are a thing of the past. And the kitchen is properly equipped: an oven, two gas hobs, a microwave, a large fridge freezer and plenty of cupboard space, with a Belfast-style sink under that lovely copper tap. Real cooking, not camping compromise.

Up front, the cab seats swivel to face the living area, turning the front of the van into a lounge for the evening: table up, dinner on, feet up.

Since February 2024

We kept making him better

Vinny was already a high-spec camper when we bought him. We then spent two years adding the upgrades we actually wanted on the road, and they all come with him:

Up top

The roof deck, everyone's favourite spot

The whole roof is a walk-on deck, and it changes how you camp. Pull up somewhere with a view and it becomes a giant sun lounger: we hang out up there for whole afternoons, reading, eating, watching the light change. Pitch the pop-up tent and you can sleep up there on warm nights, with the stars overhead.

Getting up and down is easy, two ways: the ladder at the back, or straight up through the opening skylight from the bedroom below, so you can climb out of bed and onto the deck for morning coffee. A great space to relax, and no one else on the campsite has one.

Any season

Off-grid in any weather, snow to southern sun

We have proved Vinny at both ends of the thermometer. We have camped in snow, in sub-zero temperatures, with the whole van warm: the Autoterm diesel heater draws its fuel straight from the main tank, and the original LPG heater is still installed alongside it, so you have two completely independent heating systems. The fresh water tank is insulated against the cold, too.

At the other end, we have slept comfortably through high summer in southern Spain and Portugal with no air conditioning needed: the MaxxAir fan runs in either direction, setting up a constant airflow between the front and rear roof hatches. And on warm nights there is always the third option: take the roof deck and sleep directly beneath a canopy of stars.

Off-grid power

Camp anywhere, run everything

This is where Vinny really shines: a big lithium battery, solar you can walk on, and three ways to charge. Camp for days without hook-up, work from anywhere, and stop thinking about power.

Out back

A huge garage, with everything where you can reach it

Open the rear doors and there is a proper garage under the bed: a massive storage bay that swallows bikes, boards, chairs, tools and all the touring kit, with room to spare.

It is also where the systems live, out in the open rather than buried behind furniture. The electrics board, the fresh-water plant with its tank, pump and filters, and the gas heater are all right there, labelled and easy to get at. Checking a fuse or changing a filter takes minutes, not an afternoon of dismantling.

Locked up

Security, in depth

A camper is worth protecting, and Vinny is protected several layers deep. An alarm system covers the living space. Hook locks, professionally fitted to every door, cab, side and rear, secure the shell. And for parked-up peace of mind there is a full set of physical deterrents that come with the van: wheel clamp, steering wheel lock and pedal lock.

Work from anywhere

The office is wherever you park it

Vinny doubles as a proper mobile office. The doorway desk folds out in seconds for the best-view workstation you will ever have, and the galley worktop takes a second laptop, so two people can work at once. With 240V sockets, USB points, the 2500W inverter and solar topping the battery up all day, laptops and screens simply run. Take the month-long trip and bring the work along.

Inside Vinny set up for work: two laptops on two work surfaces, warm wood ceiling, open door to a sunny field

Included

Ready to tour from day one

Vinny comes with a Vango all-weather awning, a Quest pop-up awning, a roof tent for the deck, and extra-high levelling wedges. Turn up, set up camp, and you're away.
